Introducing Our Juror
Diego Emanuel Loya is a Mexican-American interdisciplinary artist whose work explores themes of identity, memory, and collective empathy.
Born and raised in Tyler, Texas, with extended stays in his second home of Chihuahua, Mexico, Loya’s bicultural upbringing continues to shape his creative perspective. He earned his Master of Fine Arts from Alfred University in the Sculpture and Dimensional Studies division. Loya has been nominated for The Regents’ Outstanding Arts & Humanities Award in the Visual Arts and received the GATE Program Scholarship, which allowed him to study abroad in Italy. His work has been exhibited nationally in solo, group, and juried exhibitions across the United States.
Through a poetic use of humble materials, Loya creates sculptures and installations that invite reflection on social and political issues affecting underrepresented communities. His work encourages empathy, awareness, and human connection while shedding light on the realities often overlooked in everyday life.
